During the prom Haylie had fallen asleep in a rocking chair. Death then caught her by surprise, Haylie went quietly with him, because she knew her time was up and her kids were ready to take on the world.
But the kids weren't ready for their mother to die. The principal had told them at the end of the evening about what had happened. Aimee ran outside to cry and her brother ran after her. Collin didn't cry that evening, not infront of Aimee atleast, now she was his responsibility, their dad wouldn't take care of them.
The next couple of months were really hard on them, Aimee would often run out of class to cry, and even when they were on a field trip. Collin never said anything he would just follow her and hold her hand while she cried.
Then one day Aimee walked up to Collin who didn't say much after the death of their mother. She asked him about his feelings and then he burst. He started crying hysterically, Aimee felt that it was her fault, she should have taken care of him, as he had taken care of her.
After that day, they both took care of the chores around the house and Aimee started to take care of the cooking, they were fed up with pizza.
Thornton stayed out of the kids way and only came out during night ta hang out with the ghost of his wife, who now haunted the house nightly.
